I met my boyfriend in March five years ago. To celebrate the “fifth meeting anniversary” (sorry if it sounds lame, but anything for makeup!), I asked him to gift me something makeup. I got two lipsticks from the “Plush Hour Matte” range of Sugar cosmetics and was surprised to see that none of them are reviewed on IMBB yet. In this review, I will talk about Cherry Jane, a cool-toned red from this range.

My Experience with Sugar Cosmetics Plush Hour Matte Lipstick 01 Cherry Jane:

Packaging: The lipstick comes in a quirky, paper carton. The lipstick comes in a beautiful, matte, black square tube with the name printed on it. However, as it is all black, if you have multiple shades, it will be difficult to pick the color you want to wear quickly from your stash. I hope they add some color-coded cap in the future to their lipsticks. The cap shuts tightly with a click and the packaging is travel friendly. Considering the price, the packaging is pretty good.

Shade and Pigmentation: The shade is described in the website as “Swipe on Cherry Jane and you’re ready for the big screen in a flash! An iconic cool toned red that’s definitely not for wallflowers, this one grabs both attention and envy in copious quantities.” This is indeed a cool-toned red with a hint of pink. I compared it with my all-time favorite “Ruby Woo” and realized that “Cherry Jane” is more pink and more cool toned. It brightens up the face and looks good on all skin tones. I will wear it often and save my “Ruby Woo” for special occasions. The lipstick is immensely pigmented. It covers my pigmented lips in a single sweep. I can use it even without any lip liner.

Texture: The lipstick is matte but not drying. It is not creamy but still smooth and soft. It glides comfortably on the lips and spread evenly. The color, even when layered, does not feel patchy or flaky. It sits comfortably on the lips without any creamy feel or without making lips dry. The lipstick does not settle down into fine lines. However, it clings to dry patches. The lips do not feel dry when you remove it, but it is always better to moisturize lips before and after using a lipstick.

Staying Power: The lipstick stays on for 5-6 hours. It fades a little with heavy meals and coffee. It does not transfer much if you drink water or kiss your bf. It stays put along the lip line too. The fading is even and does not look patchy. Even when maximum amount gets faded (if you are gorging on biriyani), it leaves a nice stain behind. It gets completely removed with facial wipes and cleansing oils.

Overall, I am pretty happy with the formula and color. This will be my go-to red lipstick for any occasion.
